A study, published in Clinical Infectious Diseases, reported that hospitalizations due to breakthrough COVID-19 infection were highly uncommon.

The study from Mayo Clinic stated that the hospitalization rate was only 6 in 10,000 (0.06%) among vaccinated people and 1 in 10,000 among patients who have received the vaccine and acquired immunity through prior infection. These results were in line with previous studies which showed that vaccination was the best way to prevent severe COVID-19 infection, hospitalization and death. A total of 106,349 primary care patients aged 18 years or above, who tested positive for COVID-19 and/or were vaccinated were included in the study. Only 69 of these patients were hospitalized because of breakthrough COVID-19 infection.(ET Healthworld – IANS, March 24, 2022)
